JUST THE FACTS

Dan Bengel
Hello there, maybe you found this site by luck, or maybe I told you about it. Whatever the case may be, welcome! This is not some fancy blog, with me posting on it all day, but one that has "just the facts". You know, the important things in life. The tap list, events coming up, and specials. Yeah, I'm even going to comment on some of the stuff I will be doing here. So grab a beer and relax, the show is getting ready to start.

ANYBODY HERE SEEN MY OLD FRIEND DAN?

Can you tell me where he's gone? I can tell you he has been back to the dehop center and he sure as hell hasn't updated the tap list! But never fear, by tonight everything will be back to normal. Promise.

STOP ME BEFORE I HOP AGAIN

I had to go to the doctor today for a checkup. My blood pressure was 12o minute over 90 minute. My blood work came back with abnormally high lupulin levels. The colonoscopy showed several hop pockets. I was coming home and got pulled over by the police. I blew a 0.95 ibu's. Yeah kids it was a lot of hops, but you crazy folks from New York, Philly, Harrisburg and good old Baltimore and oh yeah, the next big hot town, Spring Mount came and drank and ate and I hope had a great time. More stuff about this fine time later as I got to go somewhere. Thanks to everybody from the kitchen staff to the waiters and waitress and Ms. Kim and Sara "Hop Rocks" and some guy named John Ortino. That name sound so familiar.

THE RULES OF "HOPSTOCK"

The first rule is, don't eat the brown acid man. The second rule is, have fun, relax, have a beer or two or three. And here we go with your most important rules: Sampler of 5, $10. The wine glasses that we never use for wine or called a half $3. Pints $5. VERY LIMITED GROWLER SALES $20 a pop. Needless to say NO Pliny, Nugget, Hopslam and Rogue in growlers. The management always reserves the right to add to that list. BBQ buffet is $14.95 and should be out by 4. All prices are for today only! The weather is purrfect! So the answer is for today, It's the hops!

MYSTERY, AHHH

The New York Dolls were and still one of my favorite bands. Their second album, which I wore out back in the day, had a song called "Mystery Girl." That song comes to mind every time I have the Stone beer from the outside bar. See we all thought it was Double Bastard, then we thought it was 10th Anniversary. Hell, one night it tasted like Double Simcoe. I think I need to get my beer geek license renew, cause this beer is driving me crazy, but in a good way. So as David J. might say "What is the mystery beer? Mystery, ahhh."

IT'S NOT THE HEAT, IT'S THE HOPS!!!

You begged, you bartered, hell, you even threaten! Now the time has come, August 18 at 3 pm when the Northside lets loose the luscious lupulin liquid on the public. You'll see what is going to be on tap that day over and down to the right and we got a couple more to stick on that list so keep your eyes open. We will have samplers and pints and bbq buffet. It's pay as you "grow" once you see the buffet. There will stuff outside and inside and we will let you know exactly where it is going to be. Even more details as we get closer. Are you ready?

HOT AUGUST NIGHTS

I was sitting at the bar with Mr. O and Sara "Rocks", when in walks Neil Diamond. He sits down and orders up some bbq and a beer. We all get to talking when John asks "What do you like to do on a hot August night". Neil looks up and wipes his mouth off on his sequin sleeve and says "John, me and Sweet Caroline think about that a lot. But after eating this killer bbq, why hell, I might even bring Cracklin Rosie here if you serve this every Saturday night". So every Saturday night in August, the bbq buffet will be served and there will be beer specials to go along with it. Cause Neil said so.

R AND R IN REHOBOTH

I know, I know, where the hell was the updated tap list? Where was your Pulitzer prize writing blog post? And where have you been since Stone Soul Picnic? The answer my friends were blowing in the sea wind, or down my gullet. Last Wednesday night me and the "No fun twin" took a ride down to Dewey Beach to stay a couple of days with the other "No fun twin" and the family. My brother was in town from Florida for a few days and the rest of my family lives down that way. In other words it was a family affair. That is just too much family for me, so I went to see some of my other "family" at Dogfish and Fins Raw Bar. Dogfish was pouring Johnny Rawton Pils, a mighty fine take on pils from the most underrated brewer around, Mike Gerhart. Fins had Avery IPA and St. Rouge Red which was also going down mighty fine as well. Arena's Deli up the street had the Kaiser Pils from Penn on while I was killing time waiting for a trolley to take me back to Dewey. In other words, there wasn't much to do down there, except drink good beer. Which by the way, I am still good at. Some people lay in the sun on the beach, I beach myself out of the sun in those fine places. So on the way home Saturday, we stopped at Stewarts for a taste of Ric's barleywine fest. Yum, double yum. So I needed a day or two to, you know, to dry out. Now I'm back, ready to help throw down the hop monsters festival on the 18th. Be afraid, be very afraid.
